Amazonian Forests Brazilian Tourist Visa required USD $2,350* from Rio de Janiero This trip is nearly full- act not if you want to get on Ornifolks is planning a two-week trip to Pará (PA) in September. Following some initial birding around Rio, we will transfer to the Serra das Carajás (PA), which will be the main focus of our trip. Space will be strictly limited
to 4-6 clients. Carajás, a huge region under mining concession to the Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, contains some superb east Amazonian forests, among other habitats. A new PSC species, the Carajás Woodcreeper, has very recently been described from the area, but other potential highlights are arguably even more exciting and include: Brazilian Tinamou, many raptors (including Harpy Eagle), White-crested Guan, Razor-billed Curassow, Red-throated Piping-guan, Dark-winged Trumpeter, Grey-breasted Crake, Pearly Parakeet, Scarlet-shouldered Parrotlet, White-bellied, Vulturine and Short-tailed Parrots, a host of jacamars and puffbirds, innumerable antbirds, including the awesome Wing-banded Antbird, three species of gnateater, Snethlage's Tody-Tyrant, Blackish Pewee, Black-chested Tyrant, Opal-crowned Manakin, many cotingas including White-tailed Cotinga and White Bellbird, many tanagers and numerous others. The potential for interesting discoveries is still high. *The price of $2350 is dependent on participants paying in full for the trip by mid-June 2008 and supplying details of their international flight times and ticket numbers. These are essential for the organiser to purchase the relevant air passes. It will still be possible to join the trip after June 2008, but participants will need to either buy their own air pass (for which you shall be reimbursed by the organiser) or the organiser can purchase the tickets in Brazil, which will be more expensive and for which the participants will be charged the difference.
